EU's CBAM proposal leaves 'considerable room for improvement,' industry alliance says

( July 16, 2021, 14:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU's proposal for a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism unveiled this week is prone to “loopholes and circumvention” and leaves “considerable room for improvement,” industry alliance Aegis Europe said today. The proposal should ensure that the bloc's climate goals can be achieved without jeopardizing a level playing field for the bloc's industries, said chair Inès Van Lierde. The costing and limiting of carbon emissions in the bloc shouldn't harm EU exports, Aegis said, adding that the CBAM must apply to products brought into the customs territory of the EU, even if they're subject to special procedures.
