China's Shenzhen issues rules for unmanned road testing, demonstrations of smart, connected vehicles

( November 16, 2022, 04:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s tech hub of Shenzhen has given the green light to unmanned road testing and trials for smart, connected vehicles on public roads — including urban and regional streets — within the hub’s administrative area, according to new regulations that have been unveiled. The rules, which came into effect on Nov.1 but hadn’t been made public until recently, stipulate that vehicles applying for unmanned road testing and demonstrations should reach a cumulative mileage threshold of 30,000 kilometers (18,642 miles) and 10,000 kilometers, respectively. The rules also outline requirements about placing staff inside the vehicle to ensure safety, while placing a limit of the number of vehicles that can initially apply for the road-testing and demonstration permits.
