​BT welcomes direction of Ofcom's fiber broadband plans

( January 8, 2020, 15:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK telecom incumbent BT Group has welcomed the direction of plans telecom watchdog Ofcom outlined today to spur competition and investment in in the rollout of fiber-optic connections all the way to individuals' homes and business premises. The measures spell out new regulatory and pricing controls for BT Group's network division, Openreach, as part of a market review, to replace existing rules by April 2021. “We are already well on track to hit our target of building full fiber to 4 million premises by March 2021,” Philip Jansen, BT's chief executive, said today. He said BT should “have the confidence to significantly extend our role in this important national mission and increase our full fiber target to 15 million premises and potentially beyond.”Statement follows....
