NIST releases summary, excerpts of its license to two patent portfolios as part of FIPS 203 PQC standard

( August 14, 2024, 20:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The National Institute of Standards and Technology, or NIST, revealed details of two license agreements it entered into to facilitate the adoption of three new post-quantum cryptography standards — the first of their kind. "The licenses were drafted such that any implementer" of the patented algorithms "receive the benefits of a grant to the licensed patents within the scope of a field of use limited to implementing" CRYSTALS-KYBER, later re-named ML-KEM, "as a PQC algorithm," according to NIST. "The licensors agreed, on a royalty-free basis, to place into abeyance any right of enforcement of the licensed patents against any implementer or end-user of the algorithm," the organization said.See document below....
