Top Hana Tour privacy officer guilty of negligence in data breaches, South Korean court finds

By Wooyoung Lee ( January 6, 2020, 04:30 GMT | Insight) -- A top privacy officer of South Korean travel agency Hana Tour has been found guilty by a Seoul court of negligence that led to the massive data breaches in 2017. The Seoul Eastern District Court today ruled that Kim Jin-hwan, who was responsible for the protection of private information of customers, should pay a penalty of 10 million won ($8,552), in a decision that held the manager accountable for failing to prevent data breaches that affected more than 465,000 customers. "The defendant is guilty based on evidence submitted by prosecutors, which have been refuted by lawyers in hearings at court. Our assessment finds that none [of the claims by the defendant] are accepted. I find him guilty for all [accusations]," the judge said....
