EU Commission takes Vattenfall payout state aid court defeat to EU’s top court
( May 15, 2023, 10:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has filed a legal challenge against a ruling made last year by the General Court, which overturned its approval of aid in favor of Vattenfall for the early closure of its Hemweg coal-fired power plant. In 2020, the commission cleared the payout of 52.5 million euros, finding it wouldn't unduly distort competition. In its legal challenge from January, only disclosed today, the commission argued that the ruling goes against the goal of EU legislature to swiftly gain clarity on whether measures are compatible.
