Japan's first panel meeting on sustainability and competition examines guidelines framework

( November 8, 2022, 02:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Panel members from the Japan Fair Trade Commission held their first meeting to discuss the basic framework of upcoming antitrust guidelines on collaboration between companies and other efforts to reduce global-warming gases. According to a summary published last night, several members expressed support for guidelines indicating what’s legal, illegal and borderline under the Antimonopoly Act, and to cover not only horizontal collaborations but also vertical issues, merger reviews and the abuse of superior bargaining position. Different opinions were expressed about whether to set safe harbor standards in the guidelines. Regarding collaboration between companies, the panel is considering the use of flow charts on antitrust considerations at various stages of joint projects.A statement in Japanese is attached....
