Uber tells California regulator releasing trip data will harm user privacy

( December 20, 2019, 23:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Uber Technologies told the California Public Utilities Commission that it and other Transportation Network Companies (TNC) should not be asked to share granular trip data, as transportation officials in Los Angeles and San Francisco have requested. Los Angeles and San Francisco "repeatedly fail to acknowledge privacy protections afforded to TNC users by state and federal law," Uber told the CPUC. "Dissemination of sensitive, personal information to parties beyond the Commission increases the risk of unintended disclosures through data breaches or mishandling of the data, and undermines a user’s privacy rights. This is a real risk given the increasing number of local agencies who have been subject to data breaches and cyberattacks."See attached Uber comments....
