Landmark labor-union cartel case will be reviewed by Australia's top court

By James Panichi ( August 8, 2024, 05:31 GMT | Insight) -- Australia’s highest court took the unusual step today of agreeing to review a competition case centering on whether a construction company that succumbed to boycott threats by a labor union entered into an illegal cartel agreement when it hired a union-approved subcontractor. The High Court of Australia announced it would review the appeal brought by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission against J Hutchinson, a construction company, and the Construction, Forestry, Maritime and Energy Union, a militant union.
