Senate Republicans tell FTC privacy rules will only add confusion to 'patchwork' of regulations

( November 3, 2022, 15:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Republican Senators Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Marco Rubio or Florida and Kevin Cramer of North Dakota sent a letter to US Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan opposing the commission's advanced notice of proposed rulemaking on "commercial surveillance." In the letter they argue Congress needs to make a law with lasting impact and preemption that will override individual states' laws to create a cohesive data privacy law across the country. "Without federal preemption, any new privacy rules issued by the FTC would only add to the existing ‘patchwork’ of state privacy laws and create an additional layer of requirements for businesses," the senators wrote to Khan.See document below....
