Japan's Renesas Electronics to buy UK chip maker Dialog Semiconductor for EUR4.9 billion

( February 8, 2021, 09:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- Renesas Electronics said today it has agreed to buy Dialog Semiconductor for about 4.9 billion euros ($5.9 billion) in an all-cash acquisition. The Tokyo-based supplier of car semiconductors wants to acquire the low-power technologies and connectivity expertise of Frankfurt-listed Dialog to advance embedded solutions and service high-growth segments of the Internet of Things, and industrial and automotive markets, the companies said in a joint statement. The companies plan to close the deal by the end of 2021, subject to approval by Dialog shareholders and regulators. The transaction will be structured as a court-approved scheme of arrangement under UK law. The deal requires approvals from the US, Chinese, German and other regulators.
