South Korea's top telemedicine platforms fined for inadequate personal data security measures

( May 10, 2023, 06:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Operators of South Korea's top telemedicine platforms have been hit with fines and corrective orders by the country's privacy regulator for having inadequate security measures for personal data. The Personal Information Protection Commission's investigation found that the platforms—Goodoc, Doctornow, Meraki Place, Blueant and Bbros—did not collect or store users' medical information, nor did they use the data for targeted advertising. However, they obtained blanket consent for users' personal information processing policies and had inadequate security measures, such as not applying proper access controls to personal data processing systems or encrypting sensitive personal data. The regulator also found that some platforms collected and stored licenses from doctors and pharmacists to verify their qualifications but did not mask resident registration numbers. The companies were fined a total of 36.6 million won (about $27,600) and issued corrective orders.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
