China ramps up antitrust, cybercrime, IP public-interest prosecutions

( August 7, 2024, 05:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China's prosecuting offices have initiated 58 cases relating to antitrust and anti-unfair competition in the first half, as part of an effort to protect fair competition through public-interest lawsuits, according to a senior prosecutor with the Supreme People's Procuratorate. In a statement on the authority's website, the prosecutor noted that the offices charged 28,000 people and handled more than 2,700 public-interest lawsuits for illegal activities such as online and telecom fraud, as well as infringement of personal information, between January and June 2024. In addition, they have handled IP-infringement cases involving 16,000 individuals during the period, a 21.5 percent increase from a year ago.The statement follows:...
