Facebook failed to adequately safeguard user data, Canadian privacy commissioner says, asking Federal Court for extended briefing

( October 14, 2022, 19:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Federal Court of Canada should grant the application filed by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada to allow an extended briefing of the alleged facts in litigation over whether Facebook's data sharing policies violated Canada's national privacy law, the OPC said in a court document. "To the OPC’s knowledge, it is also the first time that the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica matter has advanced to the hearing stage before any court under a data protection statute," the OPC said in a court filing. "If ordered by the Court, the forward-looking remedy that the Privacy Commissioner is seeking would also be the first of its kind to attempt to regulate a global internet platform such as Facebook."See attached application....
