Senator Markey commends new ad policies to protect children on YouTube

Markey commended YouTube for updating its policies governing advertisements in kids’ videos on the website’s main video platform. YouTube announced that it will apply its content category restrictions from the YouTube Kids platform to all kids content on the main site. As such, advertisements that are violent, sexually explicit, related to food and beverages, or age-inappropriate in other ways will be prohibited in children’s videos on YouTube. YouTube also confirmed that it will prohibit targeted advertising in children’s content on YouTube. Markey did call on YouTube to go further and prohibit manipulative marketing to children form “online influencers.”Statement follows in full. ...
