Lignite-fired power-generation end date in Rhenish area would be brought forward under draft German law

( November 2, 2022, 15:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The end date for lignite-fired power plants in the Rhenish area of western Germany would be brought forward to 2030, from 2038, under a draft law agreed by the government, according to the ministry of economy and climate. However, two plants expected to be decommissioned this year would see their activities extended to the end of March 2024, and the government would also be given various temporary reserves or service life-extension options, so as to strengthen security of supply.
