Romanian antitrust fines in 2020 totaled $99 million, activity report says

( February 3, 2021, 12:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Antitrust fines imposed by Romania's Competition Council in 2020 amounted to just over 400 million lei ($99 million), the watchdog said in its activity report issued today. The council completed 13 antitrust investigations, of which 85 percent constituted cartel cases. In merger control, the watchdog authorized 54 concentrations, three of which were cleared under conditions. The pandemic led to a considerable increase in the number of notifications sent through the council's competition-warning platform, reporting about concerns in areas such as sanitation services, energy, food retail, pharmaceutical and sanitary products, car-part sales and financial services, most of which prompted the authority to open a study.The full press release is attached (in Romanian). ...
