Companies face claims of illegally partnering with TikTok to track consumers

By Amy Miller ( August 1, 2024, 23:22 GMT | Insight) -- Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Estee Lauder, Fanduel and other companies are being sued for allegedly partnering with TikTok to illegally track consumers online, with one US court allowing claims against an online tutoring company to move forward. The companies use TikTok’s “trap and trace” and “fingerprinting” software to collect and store website visitors’ private identifying information in violation of the California Invasion of Privacy Act, according to complaints filed in both US and state courts.Companies including Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Estee Lauder and Fanduel are facing lawsuits for allegedly partnering with TikTok to illegally track consumers online, with one US court allowing claims against an online tutoring company to move forward....
