EU AI Act enters into force today

( August 1, 2024, 10:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Today, the world's first comprehensive regulation on artificial intelligence, the EU AI Act, comes into force. The regulation takes a risk-based approach and its implementation will be overseen by the Commission's AI Office. Member states have until Aug. 2, 2025 to designate the competent national authorities that will oversee the application of the rules for AI systems. Most of the provisions of the AI Act will apply from Aug. 2, 2026. However, bans on AI systems that pose an unacceptable risk will apply after six months, while the rules for general purpose AI models will only apply after 12 months.The statement follows....
