Meta would be blocked from monetizing youths' data under updated US FTC privacy order

( May 3, 2023, 17:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms would be prohibited from profiting from data it collects from users under the age of 18, under a proposed amendment by the US Federal Trade Commission to a 2020 privacy order. The company would also be subject to other expanded limitations, including in its use of facial recognition technology, and required to provide additional protections for users. The FTC says Meta failed to fully comply with the original order, misled parents about their ability to control with whom their children communicated through its Messenger Kids app, and misrepresented the access it gave some app developers to private user data.Statement follows in full. ...
