iQiyi, Alibaba units among 21 apps cited by Shanghai regulator for personal-information violations

( July 31, 2024, 04:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Twenty-one apps under the jurisdiction of the Shanghai Internet regulator, including the video creation and sharing platform under streaming platform iQiyi, Alibaba's online ticketing platform Taopiaopiao and job portal 51job, were found to have problematic personal-data collection and use practices in an inspection conducted by the regulator between April and July. Ten typical issues found during the inspection include incomplete privacy policies, forced collection of unnecessary personal information, failure to inform users of the purpose and necessity of collecting sensitive personal information, and excessive use of personal data.
