Rwanda loses US tariff benefits on clothing under African Growth and Opportunity Act

( March 29, 2018, 18:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US President Donald Trump suspended the eligibility of Rwanda for the tariff benefits for certain apparel items relevant to the African Growth and Opportunity Act, while keeping Tanzania and Uganda on the list of eligible countries. Based on the results of a review of the three countries' AGOA compliance, the Trump determined that Rwanda is not making sufficient progress toward eliminating barriers to US trade and investment and notified Congress and the Rwandan government he intends to suspend duty-free treatment for all eligible clothing products from the African nation in 60 days.Statement follows:...
