Australian government harmed immigration detainees' privacy, watchdog finds

( January 27, 2021, 01:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s interior ministry interfered with the privacy of 9,251 detainees in immigration detention when it mistakenly released their personal information, according to a ruling by the country’s privacy watchdog. In a statement released today, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner said it had investigated Department of Home Affairs’ 2014 publication of a detention report, which contained embedded personal information that enabled all those in detention on Jan. 31 of that year to be identified.
