Clearview AI fined EUR20 million in France over biometric data processing

( October 20, 2022, 08:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US company Clearview AI has been fined 20 million euros ($19.6 million) by the French data protection authority CNIL, for applying biometric monitoring techniques to individuals. It has also been prohibited from collecting and processing the personal data of individuals in France using facial-recognition methods, and must also delete the data already collected. The CNIL said that the data had been collected without a valid legal basis. The fine was imposed after Clearview AI failed to respond to a formal notice, which gave the company two months to comply.Full statement below and decision is attached....
