Google seeks partial summary judgment against Epic Games, US states, others in Play Store case

( April 21, 2023, 01:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google has filed a motion for partial summary judgment against claims brought by Epic Games, Match Group, a group of US states, and consumers accusing the company of abusing a monopoly in Android app distribution through its Play Store. The tech giant says that ahead of a planned trial, it's entitled to summary judgment on claims that it unlawfully prohibits the distribution of other app stores on its own store, that its agreements with developers were per se illegal, and on claims related to early "carrier" agreements. It also claims that consumers and the US state attorneys general do not have standing to recover damages on alleged overpayments in in-app payments and subscriptions, which are subject to its commission fees. Google also says it's entitled to summary judgment on claims that it illegally tied its payment mechanism to its store, since they are not separate and distinct products.Court document attached....
