WeChat users sue Tencent America over alleged privacy violations

( January 8, 2021, 21:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Tencent America, which offers the WeChat "super app" in the United States, has been sued for privacy violations by Citizen Power Initiatives for China, a human rights group that says WeChat users in California are being systematically surveilled in violation of the California Constitution and state privacy laws. The CPIC, in a suit filed in Superior Court in Santa Clara County, is requesting an injunction blocking the collection of personal information for the Chinese Communist Party. WeChat's privacy policy is also illegal because it is so ambiguous, the group says. "California WeChat users are entitled to clear, unambiguous and testable language with respect to the nature and scope of their privacy on WeChat — in other words, to honesty and transparency," the CPIC said in a complaint.See attached complaint....
