Renewables may beat coal for power generation next year, IEA forecasts, as global demand rises

( July 19, 2024, 05:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Power producers and traders can expect global demand for electricity to rise 4 percent in 2024 and 2025, “its fastest rate in years,” the International Energy Agency has said. Use of renewables will expand too and may reach 35 percent of global electricity supply in 2025, surpassing coal generation for the first time, the IEA said. It added that uncertainties exist over the power demand of data centers, including “the diverse and expanding uses of AI,” and that better collection of data can help in understanding future trends.Press release follows; report available here....
