Shanghai vows to boost development of smart, connected vehicles, new energy cars

( October 14, 2022, 04:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Shanghai has opened up 1,299 kms (807 miles) for road testing of smart, connected vehicles and will boost the percentage of pure electric vehicles among new cars to over 50 percent by 2025, according to officials. In an introduction yesterday to a white paper outlining transport-development goals in the city over the next 10 years, officials referred to the white paper and said that the smart, connected-vehicle industry will be worth CNY500 billion ($70.4 billion today) by 2025, with more than 70 percent of cars produced by then having Level 3 self-driving systems. The Shanghai government also has the goal of ensuring that L4 highly autonomous driving technologies are adopted in logistics transport, environmental sanitation and passenger transport. The commercial operation of driverless cars will be gradually realized in designated areas in Pudong New Area.
