Voice assistants by Google, Apple, Microsoft in sight of Irish data watchdog

( December 3, 2019, 12:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Ireland's top privacy regulator is "engaging" with Google, Apple and Microsoft to "establish the manner by which their voice assistant products comply with data protection requirements." The Data Protection Commission said in a statement that it was examining issues presenting risks, such as voice recording and lack of transparency about how the companies use human review of people's voice data to improve the technology. The DPC added that its counterpart in Luxembourg was engaging with Amazon about its Alexa product. The Irish regulator also flagged the possibility of EU-wide guidance to clarify how privacy obligations apply to the use of voice assistant technology.Statement follows....
