Novelis takes Aleris merger aftermath to EU court

By Natalie McNelis and Lewis Crofts ( January 18, 2021, 10:56 GMT | Insight) -- Novelis has lodged a case in the EU General Court challenging the European Commission's refusal to grant it a one-month extension in the divestment timetable it agreed in exchange for approval of its Aleris takeover. Highlighting the potential consequences of being in violation of the commission’s deadline, Novelis said it had "good cause" to ask for more time, and said the commission had "several less onerous" options at its disposal.Novelis has started legal action with EU judges in a timing dispute over divestments it promised to make in exchange for approval of its Aleris takeover, according to an item in the bloc's Official Journal today....
