AlphaTheta-Serato deal rejected by New Zealand antitrust regulator over competition loss in DJ software, hardware markets

( July 18, 2024, 01:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan-based disc-jockey hardware company AlphaTheta's bid to acquire DJ software producer Serato Audio was rejected by the New Zealand antitrust agency today. In a statement, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said that it is not satisfied that the existing players would offer adequate competitive restraints to the merged entity. The regulator noted that it was unlikely for a new entrant in the DJ software market to apply significant competitive pressure on the merged entity in the short term. The Commerce Commission also said that Serato is an important piece of software for DJ hardware providers to integrate their products with and the merger could give AlphaTheta the "means to eliminate" the ability of DJ hardware rivals to integrate their products with Serato. The full statement from the New Zealand Commerce Commission follows:...
