Data-mapping tool kit published by Japan privacy commission to help companies' privacy assessments

( October 13, 2022, 02:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan's privacy commission unveiled a data-mapping tool kit today to help companies conduct privacy-impact assessments. The tool kit lays out a basic procedure for a company to examine its inventory of personal data, including data stored on cloud services or handled by contractors, with the aim to help companies comply with the data-protection law. The Personal Information Protection Commission also added additional documents on checklists to examine the protection of personal data transferred abroad, and data handled abroad. Although the Act on the Protection of Personal Information doesn’t mandate privacy-impact assessments, the PPC has been encouraging companies to proactively assess their data-privacy and security risks to gain consumers’ trust and improve data governance.
