UK company execs escape punishment due to weak corporate-liability laws, SFO chief warns

( June 30, 2021, 10:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Company directors in the UK are able to engage in "bad behavior" because the law fails to punish individuals who "can distance themselves from the actions of their company," Lisa Osofsky, director of the UK's Serious Fraud Office, warned today. "This can result in what I call a dangerous culture of organized irresponsibility," she said. Osofsky's words come ahead of the tenth anniversary of the implementation of the UK’s Bribery Act, which enables law-enforcement agencies to prosecute companies for failing to prevent bribery and tax evasion, but not for other large economic crimes.Statement follows....
