UK coal-power exit brought forward to 2024

( June 30, 2021, 08:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK will no longer use coal to generate power as of October 2024 — bringing forward the planned phaseout of that fuel by a year — the government said today. New legislation to enforce the coal exit will be put forward “at the earliest opportunity,” it said in a statement. “Today we’re sending a clear signal around the world that the UK is leading the way in consigning coal power to the history books, and that we’re serious about decarbonizing our power system so we can meet our ambitious, world-leading climate targets,” said energy and climate-change minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan.Statement follows....
