Flight Centre Travel Group wins appeal against Australian competition regulator

( July 31, 2015, 06:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- Mlex Summary: The Full Court of the Federal Court of Australia overturned a 2013 decision by the Federal Court that ruled Flight Centre Travel Group Limited was guilty of engaging in anti-competitive conduct and ordered it to pay penalties totaling A$11 million ($8 million). The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission instituted proceedings against Flight Centre in March 2012, alleging that six times between 2005 and 2009 the travel firm had sought to prevent certain airlines from undercutting it on international airfares. The Full Court rejected ACCC’s allegations, ruling that Flight Centre acted as an agent for the airlines, and therefore was not in direct competition with them.The regulator's full statement follows:...
