Japan federation of power companies starts taking measures to prevent recurrence of cartel

( April 14, 2023, 09:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan said it has set up a team of lawyers to find out facts about antitrust breaches by its member companies, some of whom recently received corrective orders and fines from the Japan Fair Trade Commission. In response to the JFTC’s request, the federation set up a team of lawyers to conduct hearings with six companies implicated in market-sharing cartels and to conduct a survey. Based on the findings, the Federation plans to announce measures to prevent inappropriate information sharing and antitrust breaches. The JFTC said that power company officials used their connections with rival power companies that they had built while seconded to the federation and at federation meetings to engage in collusion, and has asked the industry group to ensure members and secretariat officials refrain from information exchanges that could lead to antitrust violations.
