Belgian politicians fined EUR5,000 each for violating GDPR in election campaign

( November 28, 2019, 14:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Two Belgian politicians — the mayor and an alderman of an unnamed city — have each been fined 5,000 euros (around $5,500) for misuse of personal data in the 2018 local elections, the national data protection authority said in a statement. They had reused a customer database in order to send out election campaign material. But using such personal data for other purposes is a violation of GDPR, according to the regulator, which added that the case is more serious because the actions were committed by public officials.Statement follows in Dutch....
