The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit found that a district court judge did not overstep his authority by setting licensing rates for Motorola’s standard-essential patents during a bench trial that were later used as evidence in the jury trial. Motorola Mobility has lost its bid to overturn a $14.5 million jury verdict won by Microsoft in a dispute over royalties for patents essential to WiFi standards used in Xbox game players and Windows operating systems....
