( July 30, 2015, 16:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Expedia and Orbitz control more than three-quarters of the US market for online travel bookings, and their proposed merger should be carefully scrutinized by US antitrust authorities, wrote Senators Mike Lee and Amy Klobuchar, the chairman and senior Democrat, respectively, on the Judiciary antitrust subcommittee, in a bipartisan letter to Department of Justice officials Thursday. "Although bookings through online travel agencies reflect only 13 percent of the $1.3 trillion travel industry, being listed on a booking website is a critical advertising tool," the senators wrote.
