Electrical-appliance makers face new EU rules on standby-mode power consumption

( April 17, 2023, 11:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Makers of electrical appliances will face revised EU rules on products’ power consumption when in standby mode. The rules, adopted today by the European Commission, will fully apply to manufacturers in two years’ time, at the end of a transition period. “Some limits will be applied in two stages, with the final rules applicable after four years,” the commission said in a separate statement. Products with a low-voltage external power supply, such as a computer modem, will become subject to the law. The commission said that with appliances’ reduced power consumption, it expects savings of about 4 terawatt hours a year by 2030.Statement follows; Regulation and Annex attached....
