CADE's economics department to opine on liquefied petroleum gas cartel

( October 27, 2016, 20:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Márcio de Oliveira Júnior, the interim president at the Brazilian competition authority, has asked the agency's economic department to issue an opinion about a liquefied petroleum gas cartel in the northern state of Pará, according to a statement disclosed today in the case file. On Oct. 18, a final ruling on the case was postponed during CADE's decision making session because Oliveira Júnior wants to check that the proposed fine is accurate and ensure the investigation didn’t breach the company’s right of defense. Councilor Cristiane Alkmin Schmidt, who was leading the case at that time, suggested fines of 67.47 million reais ($21.28 million) to gas distributor Paragás Distribuidora.CADE statement follows in Portuguese....
