U.S. District Court: Eastern District of Louisiana - St. Joseph Abbey et al v. Castille et al [complaint]

( August 12, 2010, 16:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The monks of St. Joseph Abbey have filed a suit against the members of the Louisiana State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors, alleging that the board enforces a Louisiana law that restrains trade by arbitrarily requiring the monks to seek “funeral establishment” licensing in order to sell caskets. The monks argue that Louisiana does not “require other retailers to obtain licenses that are only tangentially related to the goods being sold.” The monks are seeking a permanent injunction to prevent the licensing law from applying to them.See complaint below....
