NTT West, Dynabook, Otsuka Corp hit with cease-and-desist for Japanese school PC bid-rigging

( October 6, 2022, 07:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: NTT West, Dynabook, and Otsuka Corp, along with eight other Hiroshima-based computer lease companies and IT service providers were issued cease-and-desist orders today for colluding to rig bids for PCs, servers and other PC-appliances for Hiroshima public schools. The Japan Fair Trade Commission said that in addition, it fined Hiroshima companies Hokushin-Eiden, Shinseikogyosha, Hi-Elecom, Tateshiba, Chugai Technos, and Tokyo-based Otsuka Corp a total of 56.8 million yen ($393,000) for rigging the bids for Hiroshima prefecture board of education at least from July 2017, and Hiroshima city at least from May 2016. NTT West avoided fines altogether by filing for leniency, and Otsuka and Hokushin-Eiden received discounts for self-reporting.The statement, in Japanese, is attached....
