Online age verification, parental consent needs EU harmonization, French consultation suggests

( January 11, 2021, 12:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Most French businesses, education institutions and other stakeholders believe that verification of age and parental consent needs to be harmonized at European level, France's data-protection authority said as it published a consultation report and a study on children's digital rights. Companies such as online platforms must be free to choose how, according to the level of risk of the child and their data. In France, anyone aged 15 can consent  without parental authority to the processing of personal data. The CNIL said it will publish further conclusions by June.Statement follows in French.
