Spanish competition watchdog fines car makers, distributors EUR171 million

( July 28, 2015, 13:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Spain's antitrust authority has imposed fines totaling 171 million euros on 21 car producers and distributors, as well as two consultancies, for anticompetitive practices between February 2006 and August 2013. The companies systematically exchanged sensitive data on the car sales and after-sales market. SEAT and companies belonging to the group, Volkswagen Audi España and Porsche Ibérica, have been exempted from the fines because they blew the whistle on the cartel. In addition, the regulator closed the proceedings into Peugeot Citroën Automóviles España, Renault España and Orio Spain because there was no evidence the companies breached competition rules.Full statement follows in the Spanish original:...
