NZ-EU FTA still on track, says New Zealand Trade Minister McClay

( October 26, 2016, 04:31 GMT | Insight) -- New Zealand Trade Minister Todd McClay said the New Zealand-EU free trade agreement is still on track despite the recent scuppering of the EU-Canada FTA and rising anti-trade sentiment globally, the National Business Review reports.New Zealand Trade Minister Todd McClay said the New Zealand-EU free trade agreement is still on track despite the recent scuppering of the EU-Canada FTA and rising anti-trade sentiment globally, the National Business Review reports. He and EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom agreed to work within the WTO to reduce non-tariff barriers, and fishing and agricultural subsidies. The trading partners removed agricultural export subsidies in late 2015, but McClay said much more remains to be done. Meanwhile, WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo said that, more than trade-related displacement, technology and innovation were a primary cause of job losses, and protectionism would only harm the competitiveness of companies....
