EU climate-neutrality law passed by European Parliament

( June 24, 2021, 11:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: An EU-wide regulation — setting a net-zero emissions goal for 2050 and a reduction of “at least 55 percent” for 2030, based on levels in 1990 — has today been formally approved by the European Parliament. It also contains provisions for the establishment of a further climate goal for 2040, and sets up a new EU scientific body tasked with monitoring the EU’s climate policy. The bill was backed by 442 lawmakers, with 203 votes against and 51 abstentions. To enter into force, the law still needs the formal approval of the Council of the EU, which gathers the bloc’s national governments.Statement follows....
