DOJ moves to terminate Paramount consent decrees

( November 22, 2019, 22:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Justice announced that it has filed a motion in federal court to terminate the Paramount consent decrees, which have regulated how certain movie studios distribute films to movie theaters for more than 70 years. “The Division has concluded that these decrees have served their purpose, and their continued existence may actually harm American consumers by standing in the way of innovative business models for the exhibition of America’s great creative films,” said Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim. The motion would allow a two-year transition period for block-booking and circuit dealing to allow the theater and motion picture industry to transition to the new licensing changes.Statement follows in full.
