DOJ seeks partial stay in forfeiture case related to Nigerian bribery allegations

( March 9, 2018, 23:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Justice Department has asked for a stay in part of a forfeiture action against a mega-yacht, various US real estate properties and bank accounts as the US investigates allegations of bribery and other crimes involving a former oil minister of Nigeria. Last year, DOJ filed the action against the assets saying that Nigerian businessmen "Kolawole Aluko, Olajide Omokore, and others conspired to provide lavish gifts to the former Nigerian Minister for Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke" in return for contracts. DOJ said a stay is necessary for criminal investigations, but not for proceedings that seek to maintain the value of the properties or to sell them and protect the proceeds as part of the forfeiture action.See document below....
