'Greenwashing' targeted in Australian review of company websites

( October 3, 2022, 23:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online businesses making environmental and sustainability claims on their webpages are facing a new Australian crackdown, the country's consumer regulator has announced. In a press release today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said it would review at least 200 websites for “greenwashing” — claims that businesses are more environmentally sustainable than they are — across a range of industries including energy, vehicles, household products and appliances and cosmetics. The ACCC is also conducting a "sweep" of web-based reviews of products for similar claims.
